The Wood County Society is proud to provide Camp ECHO each year! Camp ECHO, one of the Wood County Society’s largest programs started in the early 1970’s as a respite program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. As Camp ECHO grew and developed as a viable program for the Wood County Society, the program was moved from the Girl Scout Camp in Sandy Bend and now is hosted by Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, West Virginia.
Camp ECHO proudly offers respite care for individuals with developmental disabilities as well various activities throughout the week. This year, participants were engaged in Art Therapy, Experiential Activities, and Equestrian Therapy. Among the many activities the Wood County Society offers at Camp ECHO, participants also enjoyed performances by Jump Company U.S.A., Pro Wrestlers, the Proclaimer’s as well as the annual Talent Show, and a Glow in the Dark Dance Party. Participants were also visited by Miss WV Strawberry Festival Teen – Sydni Smith, Miss WV Three Rivers Festival Teen Alexis Bland, Miss WV Association of Fairs and Festivals Jocelynn Wilson, Miss WV Teen USA Olivia Hutchinson, Bret Powell and his Therapy Dog Molly, Race Cars from Ohio Valley Speedway, a “Girls Spa Day” hosted by Headlines Day Spa, and American Sign Language Education by Caryn Keller. Camp ECHO ended with a Grand Closing Ceremony – celebrating the accomplishments and success of every participant at Camp ECHO!
As part of the “INSPIRE” movement this year, Camp ECHO Clients, Counselors and Staff will come together to give back to our community in the Mid-Ohio Valley in a very special way!
