The Wood County Society believes that the Summer Speech program is a crucial and beneficial program that gives children the ability to retain any and all skills learned throughout the school year. The Summer Speech program builds upon the success the child has learned and enables the child to grow and add new skills by utilizing enhanced interventions.
The Wood County Society Summer Speech Program is offered to candidates on referral from educational institutions from the aforementioned counties. To be considered, students with moderate or severe speech/language disorders who need therapy during the summer to maintain or increase skills they have acquired in Speech Therapy during the previous school year are chosen.
Children for this clinic may have Apraxia of Speech and/or sensory integration disorders and a speech/language delay. The treatment plan is to have the children grouped for motor sensory work utilizing sensory integration principles, then work separately on enhancing speech skills. Furthermore, each child receives one-half (1/2) hour of speech therapy, two (2) times a week for six (6) weeks throughout the summer.
